iPad Support & Troubleshooting
Independent, easy-to-follow guidance for common iPad issues — setup, apps, the screen, battery, Wi-Fi, your account, backups and overall speed.
Whether you use your iPad for work, study, drawing or relaxing, a hiccup can interrupt your whole day. Below is practical, plain-language troubleshooting for the iPad issues we help with most. Follow the relevant steps at your own pace, and reach out any time you need a hand.
Setup & getting started
Setting up a new or reset iPad is usually smooth, but a few things can trip people up.
- Connect to reliable Wi-Fi before you begin, and keep the iPad charged.
- Have your account details ready, and expect a verification code on a trusted device.
- If restoring from a backup, make sure the backup is recent and complete.
- Give large restores time — downloading apps and content can take a while on slower connections.
App problems
When apps crash, freeze or refuse to open, a quick refresh usually helps.
- Force-close the app and reopen it.
- Restart the iPad to clear its memory.
- Update the app and iPadOS to the latest versions.
- If one app keeps failing, delete and reinstall it after backing up any needed data.
Screen & display issues
Unresponsive touch, flickering or rotation problems are often software-related.
- Clean the screen and remove any thick case or protector that may interfere with touch.
- Restart the iPad to clear a temporary display glitch.
- Check the rotation lock in Control Centre if the screen will not rotate.
- Adjust brightness and True Tone if colours look off.
If the display shows cracks, dead pixels or persistent lines, the issue is likely physical and may need a hardware repair.
Battery & charging
iPads draw more power than phones, so charging and drain issues are common.
- Use an adequate power adapter — underpowered chargers may charge very slowly or not at all.
- Try a different cable and clean the charging port of any lint.
- Review which apps use the most battery and limit their background activity.
- Enable Auto-Lock and lower brightness to extend runtime.
Wi-Fi connectivity
If your iPad will not connect or keeps dropping Wi-Fi, work through these steps.
- Toggle Wi-Fi off and on, then reconnect.
- Forget the network and rejoin with the correct password.
- Restart the iPad and your router.
- If issues persist everywhere, reset network settings.
Apple ID & account
Account issues can block downloads, syncing and iCloud features.
- Confirm you are signed in with the correct account in Settings.
- Check your internet connection and try signing out and back in.
- Use official account recovery if you have forgotten your password — we will guide you, but we never ask for your password.
We can explain the recovery process, but only you (or the account owner) can complete it. Be wary of anyone offering to unlock an account for a fee.
Backups & restore
Regular backups protect your photos, notes and settings. Here is how to keep them healthy.
- Enable automatic cloud backups over Wi-Fi, or back up to a computer periodically.
- Make sure you have enough cloud or disk space for the backup to complete.
- Before a reset, confirm your latest backup finished successfully.
- When restoring, keep the iPad connected to power and Wi-Fi until it is done.
Slow performance
A sluggish iPad usually perks up after some basic maintenance.
- Restart the device to clear background processes.
- Free up storage by removing unused apps and large files.
- Update iPadOS and your apps.
- Close apps you are not using and reduce background refresh.
